Aroostook Outdoor News: 9.1.16 edition
In this edition: 1) Old Home Days,
including #OutdoorActivities and the famous #TwiceAroundParade, this year with
an #OutdoorRecreation theme in #Sherman. 2) #LaborDay #KidsRun and #RoadRaces
in #Caribou. 3) #HunterSafety courses this month in #PresqueIsle and #Houlton. Plus
lots more! #offugo...
#AroostookThing of the
week: The
Viking Run and Caribou Labor Day Road Race on September 5 in Caribou
Outdoor activities of the formal,
organized variety may seem in short supply this holiday weekend, but don’t let
that stop you from visiting one or more of #Aroostook’s fine #OutdoorRecreation
hotspots.
According
to the weatherman, our state’s weather from Friday to Monday will get better
the further north you go.
The
time is right for an impromptu jaunt somewhere on the hundreds of miles of Aroostook
trails; one need only consult their trusty #MaineAtlasandGazetteer or their
favorite online resources for ideas for and directions to things to do.
Alas,
if running is your thing, then Caribou is the place to be this Labor Day. To
wit:
The
Viking Run is one of the most popular annual running events in #TheCounty – and
it’s just for kids!
The
event takes place on the Caribou High School track and features various
distances according to age group. Registration is at 8:00 a.m. and the races
start at 9:00 a.m. To find out more, contact Roy Alden (207-498-3563) FMI
After
the littles have their time to shine, the bigs take to the course of Caribou
Labor Day Road Race.
Registration
is at the Caribou High School Ski Building, which just happens to be adjacent
to the CHS track. A 5k walk starts at 10:30 a.m. and the 8k run starts at 11:00
a.m. To find out more, contact Chris Smith (207-768-9472) FMI
#AroostookNote: Did you know that the
Sherman Old Home Days features a (not incredibly) infamous ‘twice around’
parade? Most certainly a quirky, small town evolution to get the most out of
all the effort that goes into parade floats, this year's parade theme is
Outdoor Recreation. If you love a parade like I do, this unique aspect in and
of itself is enough to make this festival a must-see! PLUS -- it's on the
doorstep of the new #KatahdinWoodsandWaters #NationalMonument! #KWW
