Take, for instance, the Chewonki Live Owl Presentation this Saturday at the Presque Isle Library. It’s pretty rare to catch a glimpse of a real, live owl in its’ natural habitat, right? Can you imagine actually getting up close to one? Hunter’s breakfasts are a long-standing and revered tradition here in Aroostook County. Whether you’re a hunter looking to fuel up before a day in the deer woods or someone looking for a hearty, home-cooked meal, a hunter’s breakfast offers something for just about everyone. The centerpiece of these small town soirees is simple: it’s all about the food. Most outfits offer up traditional breakfast fare – usually in huge, all-you-can-eat helpings – at a very reasonable price. And, because these feasts frequently function as fundraisers for local clubs and organizations, most feature an overabundance of door prizes and raffle prizes to help get people in the door and raise a little extra money for their project. Adult Take It Outside Series Deboullie Day Hike trip from Caribou to Deboullie Public Reserved Land, just south of St. Francis. Getting outdoors is just part of who I am. But that was not always the case. A couple of watershed moments in my life include reading Donn Fendler’s story “Lost on A Mountain in Maine” when I was a boy and taking my first trip to Deboullie as a young man. One was important for what it sparked. The other, for what it reinforced. As boyhood heroes go, Donn Fendler was right up there with leftfielder Carl Yastrzemski of the Boston Red Sox, firefighter John Gage of the Los Angeles County Fire Department ("Emergency!" TV show), and lineman Roy Shea of the New England Telephone Company (my dad). Donn fed
